Orders were phoned in to suppliers.  This took a lot of time on hold waiting to speak to someone to place an order and then explaining what was needed on the order.  We can send our orders in one click.  Orders are received at the suppliers’ locations promptly and in a written form, so there is less chance for mistakes.
Issues from our stock were handwritten on  a list and then input manually into our computer system.  Sometimes issues were not written down.  Other times, the writing was not legible on the issue list.  This was very labor intensive, and there were many chances for error both in writing the issue down and in keying it in.  This resulted in wrong stock counts, which resulted in over-ordering or under-ordering.  Two scans and a couple of taps on the mobile scanner screen and the issue is keyed.  The labor time is cut dramatically, and there is less chance for error.
We could not run reports by production department or by tool category.  We can run various reports that allow us to track expenses.
Our stock counts were often wrong.  They are usually accurate.  This results in less emergency situations, which results in less rush shipments.
